The a330neo (new engine option) aircraft that was Tuesday (December 22, 2020) commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni at Entebbe international airport is environmentally friendly, offering a 25 per cent reduction in carbon emissions compared to previous generation aircraft, according to an official of the manufacturing company, airbus.

Uganda airlines booked two aircrafts from Airbus and one was delivered on Tuesday with its maiden flight to Entebbe operated by two airline captains, Michael Etiang, the airlines’ chief pilot assisted by Nikolaj Olsen from the manufacturing company.Joep Ellers, head of airline marketing at airbus said that the company was confident that the a330neo ‘will not only meet but also fully exceed the country’s expectations in terms of operational efficiency, profitability and passenger appeal.”This is only the beginning of what will be, I’m sure, a successful partnership between our two companies and we look forward to delivering the second a330neo in the colors of Uganda,” Ellers who represented the company at the delivery of the aircraft at Entebbe said in a statement.

On behalf of the airbus family, Ellers thanked Uganda airlines for the trust and friendship adding that the company is proud of this relationship.

“Since its creation, Uganda airlines has established itself as a major asset for the continued development of Uganda. The a330neo marks yet another milestone for this remarkable carrier,” he remarked.He also referred to the jet as their latest generation aircraft, which he said is a ‘perfect route-opener bringing Europe, middle east, India and china within non-stop reach from Entebbe.”The a330neo’s exclusive in-flight experience and fully connected cabin will carry passengers from the whole world in the most modern and comfortable manner, showcasing the best of Ugandan hospitality,” he explained.

The a330neo boasts of the latest Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, curved sharklet wingtips compared to the sharp-edged design on the a330-200 type.The Uganda airlines spokesperson, Deo Nyanzi said that the aircraft would make its maiden long route non-stop flight to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on a date yet to be fixed.He said the aircraft was scheduled to fly far routes including Dubai, London (Heathrow) Guangzhou in china and Mumbai in India.
