Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) gears up for party structure elections at sub-county and division levels across the country.
In Mubende, the District Chairperson for Veterans, Rtd. Sgt. Vicent Kamukama, has been elected Chairperson for Veterans in South Division, Mubende Municipality.
Kamukama was in a race with Norah Mbabazi, the mother of Mubende District Woman MP, Hope Grania Nakazibwe.
The polls took place at Mubende National Teachers College in South Division.
Mbabazi garnered 6 votes, while Kamukama secured 16 votes, with voters lining up behind their preferred candidates.
Kamukama has served as the Chairperson for Veterans in Mubende District for the past five years.
Upon his victory, Kamukama thanked all his supporters for entrusting him with the NRM flag as Chairperson.
“I am very happy for today’s victory, and I vow to work for veterans in my division,” said Kamukama.
He added that he aims to mobilize veterans to engage in development.
“The President gave me 200 acres of land, and I want all veterans to benefit from it,” he said.
He also called upon his counterpart, Norah Mbabazi, to work together with him.
“I am going to work with Mbabazi because she also has plans, and we shall make sure we work for the veterans,” Kamukama said.
Another position filled so far is Youth Chairperson for South Division, where Pavin Nabbuye defeated Moses Twebaze.
Nabbuye won with 17 votes, while Twebaze got 12 votes.
Elections are still ongoing, with voters waiting for the main outcome to determine who will take the Chairperson seat for South Division. Three candidates are in the race: Expedito Kimazi, Moses Kabogere, and Sylvia Nasaazi.
