Ntungamo NRM Primaries Turmoil over Re-Run Rejection

Africa-Press – Uganda. Wrangles over the Ntungamo Municipality NRM parliamentary primaries have intensified after four aspirants rejected the party tribunal’s directive for fresh voting in only seven of the 13 polling stations.

The order followed the tribunal’s annulment of Yona Musinguzi’s earlier declaration as flagbearer.

The aspirants—Phillip Ankwasa Tumuhimbise, Eric Nuwagira, Michael Katureebe, and Edward Beyendeza—argue that the tribunal’s decision is partial and fails to address irregularities that affected the entire exercise.

They insist that unless the re-run covers all 13 stations, they will boycott what they described as a manipulated process.

“We have seen Ntungamo Municipality experience the worst incidences of election violence, manipulation, and impunity,” said Ankwasa.

“After the election, we petitioned the tribunal, pointing out that 13 stations did not vote. How can the tribunal now order fresh elections in only seven? There’s no way we can accept such selective justice. Unless all stations vote, Ntungamo Municipality has no flagbearer.”

Nuwagira echoed the concerns, accusing the tribunal of bias.

“Due to the disappointment we got in the primaries, yes, we petitioned. But the decision to hold elections in only seven cells is biased. We cannot welcome it,” he said.

The standoff has left the municipality in uncertainty over how the NRM will select a flagbearer ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Analysts warn that growing internal divisions could weaken the party’s prospects in the constituency if a resolution is not reached promptly.
