Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership in Kassanda South has issued strict directives to members who received party flags to contest in the 2026 general elections.
The orders were announced by constituency registrar John Kule during a meeting at Kyakatebe LCI. The gathering was attended by Kassanda South MP Frank Kabuye, local party leaders, mobilisers, and the district Chief Mobiliser.
Kule congratulated successful flag bearers but reminded them of their responsibility as party representatives. “You are now our face in Kassanda District, and I hope you will win the 2026 general elections,” he said.
He cautioned against attending meetings of other political parties, calling it betrayal. “Please avoid such meetings and focus on party activities because we have different ideologies,” Kule emphasized.
Among the directives:
Flag bearers are barred from campaigning for rival candidates, except where NUP has no nominee.
Candidates must campaign jointly, coordinated by the Sub-county aspirant, to ensure collective visibility.
All flag bearers are required to campaign for NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
Decency and smartness are mandatory. “You may find someone in dirty clothes claiming to be an NUP flag bearer, and it becomes hard for us to campaign for them because they embarrass the party,” Kule said.
Kassanda South MP Frank Kabuye pledged support for the party’s candidates until the district is fully “painted red.” He stressed NUP’s larger mission: “Our mission is to ensure that our party president becomes the President of Uganda in 2026. We must work hard so that Kassanda South and the district at large massively vote for NUP.”
District Mobilisation Chairperson Godfrey Ssentamu added a warning to those showing rival party affiliations.
“I have seen motorcycles with NRM stickers owned by NUP supporters. If you are here and that motorcycle is yours, please remove it because you are promoting another party,” he said.
He also urged unsuccessful applicants to support those chosen as flag bearers.
“I know some of you are angry, thinking you were denied a chance, but none of us knew the criteria. We are all still young, and if you support each other now, your chance will come next time,” Ssentamu noted.
In 2021, only 22 people in Kassanda South expressed interest in contesting on the NUP ticket. This year, 75 applied, with 55 selected as official flag bearers.
