Africa-Press – Uganda. National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has unveiled a new regional party office in Mbarara, built in secrecy without prior notification to security agencies or some party members.
“We bought this land, started construction, and have unveiled the offices without security or even some of our members knowing,” Kyagulanyi said during the ceremony.
He noted that the Mbarara office will serve as a hub for mobilising support in western Uganda as the presidential campaigns kick off next week.
“Our campaigns in western Uganda will be based here. I therefore urge all our candidates and members to make use of this office,” he added.
The party’s regional coordinator for western Uganda, Bright Muhumuza, introduced party leaders and aspirants for various positions, while Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya disclosed that the land for the new office was acquired in July 2024 and that the party has secured the title.
“We bought this land in July 2024 without anyone knowing, including our members in Mbarara. We have the land title ready,” Rubongoya said.
Kyagulanyi also urged young voters to support youthful aspirants across all positions, not just the presidential race. “Give these young people a chance—vote for them after voting for me,” he said.
The NUP currently operates 40 offices nationwide, 10 of which are in western Uganda.
The Mbarara office opening proceeded without major security deployment or interruption, aside from Kyagulanyi’s presidential security detail provided by the Electoral Commission, the Leader of Opposition security team, and NUP supporters.
Several members of parliament attended the event, having been invited under the pretext of a meeting to discuss the party manifesto, only to be surprised by the unveiling of the new regional office.
