Africa-Press – Uganda. Youth leaders from the National Unity Platform (NUP) have condemned the security forces’ siege at their party headquarters in Kavule, which blocked the launch of their “Protest Vote” campaign.
Speaking to the media at Parliament, Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake and Frank Kabuye, the Shadow Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, criticised the security presence as unlawful and an attack on their constitutional rights.
“We are not deterred by the security siege,” Zaake said. “We will traverse the country preaching the gospel of the protest vote.”
The “Protest Vote” campaign, they explained, is aimed at highlighting critical issues such as abductions, youth unemployment, and escalating police brutality against opposition politicians.
“The Protest Vote campaign is about fighting the ongoing abductions, unemployment among the youth, and the increasing police brutality on politicians,” Kabuye added.
Despite the disruption, Zaake insisted that the NUP youth leaders remain determined to launch the campaign and mobilise support across the country.
