Africa-Press – Uganda. The former Chief Political Commissar of the Uganda Police, Asan Kasingye has paid tribute to the late Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Omara, describing him as a dedicated and patriotic officer.
Omara’s death was confirmed on Monday by his son, Sam Omara Jr.
He passed away at the age of 64 at Mulago Hospital after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer and kidney failure.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Kasingye, who served alongside Omara in the police force, remembered him as a selfless and hardworking officer who cherished his family.
“I am sorry for the loss of Assistant Commissioner of Police(ACP) retired Sam. Those who worked with him remember him as a selfless, patriotic and hard working officer. He loved his family too & talked fondly about cultural interconnectivity with pride,” Kasingye wrote.
He expressed gratitude to Mike Mukula for providing Omara with a position as deputy CEO at Arrow Security Systems Ltd after his retirement from the police.
“Thank you Hon for offering him employment. To the family, the Police Force and Arrow security, may God strengthen you as you go through the loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.” Kasingye stated.
Omara gained national recognition in 2011 as the commander of the Field Force Unit during the “Walk to Work” protests, which were led by opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye.
He became synonymous with the police’s contentious “preventive arrest” strategy aimed at limiting the movement of opposition figures.
In 2023, Omara returned from retirement to take on the role of deputy executive at Arrow Security.
