Africa-Press – Uganda. The Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE), an annual event showcasing Uganda’s unique attractions, concludes positioning the country as a prime destination for tourism investment, partnerships, and cultural exploration.
The expo unites tourism operators, travel agents, hospitality stakeholders, and global investors to strengthen Uganda’s brand as “The Pearl of Africa.”
Speaking at the event, Col. Edith Nakalema, Senior Presidential Advisor on Anti-Corruption and Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit, emphasised the role of technology in supporting investors and tourists.
“The Electronic Investors’ Protection Portal (EIPP) allows investors to conduct due diligence digitally, minimising human interaction with government agencies,” Nakalema said.
“This innovation streamlines processes, enhances transparency, and ensures a secure and efficient investment environment, aligning with our commitment to combat corruption and facilitate ease of doing business.”
Doreen Katusiime, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, highlighted Uganda’s unique tourism offerings and recent sector achievements.
“We are committed to strengthening regional tourism collaboration, enhancing bilateral relations, and exploring investment opportunities within the tourism sector,” Katusiime stated.
She emphasised the need for regional integration to boost Uganda’s appeal as a global tourism destination, citing partnerships like the East African Community (EAC) as key to unlocking the sector’s potential.
Renowned Ugandan tour operator Amos Wekesa, a prominent figure in the tourism industry, underscored the expo’s significance in promoting Uganda’s diverse attractions.
“POATE is a vital platform for showcasing Uganda’s rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, and untapped tourism potential. It connects local operators with global investors to create sustainable partnerships that drive growth,” said Wekesa.
His participation, alongside other industry leaders, highlighted the expo’s role in fostering collaborations that elevate Uganda’s tourism profile.
