Africa-Press – Uganda. The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has kicked off a vigorous nationwide recruitment drive for candidates seeking elective positions ahead of Uganda’s 2026 general elections.
Michael Kabaziguruka, the acting chairperson of the PFF Electoral Commission, confirmed that the collection of expression of interest forms is ongoing and will run until July 31.
Aspirants seeking the PFF presidential ticket are required to pay a nomination fee of Shs2.5 million, while those vying for district chairperson or city mayor positions are expected to pay Shs500,000.
“So far, over 100 aspirants from all regions have picked forms to contest as Members of Parliament,” Kabaziguruka said, adding that details of the nomination process have been shared on the party’s website and with district branches across the country.
Among the notable figures throwing their hat into the ring is Ingrid Turinawe, one of the party’s founding members, who has declared her intention to contest the Rukungiri Municipality parliamentary seat.
Turinawe, who arrived at the PFF headquarters flanked by supporters singing traditional songs, said she is ready to shift her activism from the streets into the legislative arena.
“I have spent years fighting for people’s rights outside Parliament. Now, it is time to enter Parliament and add strength to the long struggle,” she said.
Kabaziguruka noted that a significant number of those expressing interest in running on the PFF ticket are long-time allies of the party’s leadership.
He said the enthusiasm among supporters accompanying aspirants to pick forms has energized the process and boosted momentum.
The PFF’s mobilisation efforts come as political temperatures begin to rise across the country, with various parties positioning themselves for the 2026 polls.
PFF is aiming to solidify its standing as a formidable opposition force in the next election cycle.
