PFF Buganda Convention Debates Party Cards Strategy

Africa-Press – Uganda. Out of rhe 15 diatricts in Buganda region,Mityana District will host the first-ever People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) Buganda Convention on August 28, 2025. While party leaders describe the event as “historic” and a foundation for building grassroots strength, some candidates are already raising concerns about unresolved internal processes.

At the heart of the debate is the allocation of party cards for elective positions a process that many say remains unclear.Kabenge Ssenyonjo, an aspiring councilor for Busimbi, argues that without clarity on endorsements, campaigns have become more costly and frustrating for candidates.

“The uncertainty over who gets the official party card has discouraged members from fully engaging in campaigns and mobilising for the party,” Kabenge Ssenyonjo noted.

Similarly, Grace Tuhirirwe Lubwama, who is contesting for mayor of Mityana Municipality, notes that identity confusion has further complicated their efforts.

“Many of us previously belonged to established parties, so the communities still identify us with our old political homes, like FDC, instead of the new PFF brand,” said Grace.

Despite these frustrations, party leaders remain optimistic.According to Ssebagala William, the PFF Governor for Buganda Region, the convention aims to firmly establish the party’s roots in Mityana District while strengthening its leadership structures at all levels.

“We deliberately chose Mityana because it reflects our ‘from the grassroots up’ strategy,” Ssebagala explained, adding that the convention is meant to address existing challenges and reposition the party at the community level.

For many in PFF, the gathering is more than an internal exercise. It represents a larger battle for recognition in a region where NUP dominates as the leading opposition political party, over 1000 delegates from Buganda are expected to attend this convention.
