Africa-Press – Uganda. RwandAir’s return to Mombasa and its introduction of Zanzibar as a new island destination is already paying off, with the Kigali–Zanzibar–Mombasa route recording encouraging passenger numbers in its first week of operation.
The service, operated four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, officially commenced with water salutes, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, and participation from aviation and tourism authorities in both Zanzibar and Mombasa.
Fouad Caunhye, RwandAir’s Chief Commercial Officer, said the early performance showed clear regional demand for seamless coastal and city connectivity.
“We are encouraged by the early response from travellers on all three points of the route.
This service is already demonstrating its potential to support tourism, regional integration, and seamless mobility across East Africa,” he said.
Airline officials say the new service enhances Kigali’s position as a key East African transit hub, making it easier for travellers to combine business and leisure itineraries.
Tourism partners in Zanzibar and Mombasa have also welcomed the added lift capacity into the two coastal destinations.
Caunhye added that the first week’s results reaffirmed the airline’s expectations for the route.
“The first week reinforces the demand we anticipated for a convenient link between these destinations. We are committed to building on this momentum and offering our customers even more value as they plan their travel across the region,” he said.
