Africa-Press – Uganda. Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere traveled to Turkey, marking his first international trip since his release from prison.

Accompanied by family and a cultural entourage, the king is seeking medical treatment following prolonged negotiations with the Ugandan government.

Mumbere, who has faced treason charges since his arrest in November 2016, expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for facilitating his travel and providing ongoing support.

Addressing concerns about his health, the king refuted false social media reports claiming he was unable to walk or eat.

“I have not been feeling well lately and have decided to seek further medical attention in Turkey,” Mumbere said.

“I want to thank President Museveni for allowing me to go. I’ve seen social media reports suggesting I’m on a stretcher or cannot eat or walk. I assure my kingdom that, while I’m seeking medical review, I am still on my feet and not in critical condition. I am confident I will return stronger.”

The king is expected to complete his treatment and return to preside over significant cultural events, including the Rwenzururu Kingdom’s coronation ceremony, before the end of 2025.

Rwenzururu Kingdom Prime Minister Baritazale Kule Benson urged the people of Kasese and neighboring communities to maintain peace and harmony, emphasizing reconciliation for the kingdom’s development.

“We are committed to ensuring the kingdom remains steadfast and operational,” Benson said.

“On November 14, we will combine two major events: the coronation and Omusinga’s Birthday Run. We are also launching a strategic plan to raise funds for the kingdom’s development.”

The prime minister outlined additional initiatives, including plans to establish a kingdom radio station and promote Kasese as a premier tourism destination.

Mumbere’s trip comes as a significant moment for the Rwenzururu Kingdom, signaling hope for unity and progress as the king prepares to lead upcoming cultural and developmental milestones.
