Africa-Press – Uganda. Security agencies have announced heightened deployments to ensure safety during the highly anticipated Afcon Group C decider between Uganda Cranes and South Africa at Namboole Stadium on Monday, August 18, 2025.

Uganda, seeking to reach the knockout stage of the competition for the first time in seven attempts, go into the clash as group leaders with six points.

South Africa and Algeria are tied on five points each, while Niger are already out of contention.

Victory for either Uganda or South Africa will guarantee top spot in Group C, while defeat could mean elimination if Algeria beat Niger in the other fixture.

This East African edition of AFCON, jointly hosted by Kenya and Tanzania under the Pamoja banner, has already seen both host nations finish top of their respective groups.

Uganda will be hoping to extend the region’s strong showing by advancing to the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, police have raised concerns over counterfeit tickets circulating ahead of the match.

Authorities warned fans not to buy tickets on Sunday, August 17, or on match day, noting that some are fake while others are genuine but fraudulently sold multiple times.

In the latter case, only the first person to present the ticket at the gate will be admitted, with the access system rejecting subsequent scans.

To ease pressure on the stadium and protect supporters from fraud, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has established three official fan zones with big screens at King’s Park Bweyogerere, Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala, and Masindi.

Security personnel will be stationed at all access points to Namboole and along major roads leading to the stadium, carrying out thorough searches to prevent breaches.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango advised fans without tickets to opt for the designated fan zones for a safe and enjoyable match-day experience.
