Africa-Press – Uganda. Seven people have been arrested following a violent confrontation between rival supporters in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Local Council Five (LC5) race in Adjumani District.
The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Molupwoda, Cell 11, Central Ward of Adjumani Town Council, during a campaign consultation event organized by supporters of LC5 aspirant John Anyanzo Ambayo.
According to eyewitnesses, the violence broke out when a group allegedly aligned with incumbent LC5 chairperson Ben Anyama confronted Ambayo’s supporters, leading to a chaotic brawl that left several individuals injured and campaign posters belonging to Johnson Ananzo torn down.
Police officers from Adjumani Police Station responded to a report filed by the victims and swiftly arrested seven suspects at the scene. Six of them remain in custody as investigations continue.
“We received a report of assault and malicious damage to campaign posters during a campaign event in Molupwoda,” said Superintendent of Police Collins Asea, the West Nile Region Police spokesperson.
“Our officers responded promptly and arrested seven individuals suspected to have been involved in the violence. We strongly condemn such acts and caution the public against engaging in political intolerance.”
The case has been recorded under reference number SD 14/20/07/2025 at Adjumani Police Station.
Authorities have urged all political aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and strictly observe electoral guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission and security agencies.
