Africa-Press – Uganda. Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has lauded President Yoweri Museveni’s accommodative leadership, particularly his approach to welcoming new entrants into the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Addressing district, city, and division council speakers, Among described Museveni’s style as a “testament to his commitment to inclusivity and party unity,” noting that it has created a conducive environment for newcomers to contribute to party growth and development.

During the meeting, Among also sought the backing of council speakers for her bid to become the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC).

She emphasized that the role would allow her to advance the party’s interests while leveraging her experience as Speaker of Parliament.

“I believe my experience has prepared me well for this role, and I look forward to the support of the council speakers,” she said.

In addition to her CEC bid, Among received a petition from the Uganda Local Government Association (ULGA), requesting a salary increase for local government leaders.

She assured members that she would raise their concerns with President Museveni, stressing the need for adequate facilitation of political leaders to enhance oversight of government programs.

Among also defended Parliament’s controversial Anti-Homosexuality law, stating that it is intended to protect Ugandan culture and values, and is not meant to infringe on human rights.

The meeting highlighted Among’s dual focus on consolidating her political position within the NRM and addressing local government leaders’ welfare concerns.
