Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda Premier League side Bul have dismissed head coach Abbey Kikomeko with immediate effect following an internal performance review that found the team had fallen short of technical and competitive expectations, triggering a broader shake-up of the senior technical setup.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Bul said management had decided to terminate Kikomeko’s contract after assessing the team’s recent performances.
“Bul Football Club wishes to inform its supporters, stakeholders, and the general public that the club has parted ways with Head Coach Abbey Kikomeko with immediate effect following a comprehensive review of the team’s performance, which fell short of the Club’s set technical and competitive expectations,” the statement read.
Kikomeko paid the price after a 3-1 home defeat to newcomers Police on Tuesday, the club’s fifth straight defeat.
The club, which is owned by edible oil makers Bidco Uganda Limited, also announced the indefinite suspension of the entire senior team backroom staff, including team doctors, as part of an ongoing internal restructuring of the technical department.
“In the same regard, the entire senior team backroom staff has been indefinitely suspended, including the team doctors, as the Club undertakes an internal restructuring of its technical department,” the statement signed by Joseph Mutaka, the Chief Executive of Bul, added.
To ensure continuity, the Junior Team Technical Staff has been appointed to take temporary charge of the senior team.
The interim technical unit will be led by Daniel Kabale, assisted by Michael Sebagala, Kenneth Magada, and Fred Batwala.
“Bul Football Club thanks Mr Kikomeko for his services and wishes him well in his future endeavours,” the statement noted.
The club said it remains committed to its vision, values, and pursuit of success, and promised to communicate further updates in due course.
Bul Football Club won the Stanbic Uganda Cup on June 12, 2022, defeating Vipers 3–1 in the final in Masindi to claim the title for the first time in the club’s history.
Kikomeko took over the Jinja-based club in July 2023 on the back of the club’s most successful season when they won the Uganda Cup under the tactical acumen of Alex Isabirye.
He won back-to-back Fufa Super 8 titles with Bul and led the Eastern Giants to their best ever league finish when they were pipped by a single point to the 2023/24 title by record champions SC Villa.
Last season, Bul finished in third in the league.
The strong results saw the gaffer sign a new two-year contract in July, extending his stay at the club until 2027.
But that he will now be searching for a new job since everything went south this season.
After two wins and four draws this season, Kikomeko’s charges switched off, leading to a a run of five consecutive defeats that pushed the club to 12th place on 12 points – just two ahead of debutants Buhimba in the final relegation spot.
Kikomeko earned his coaching stripes while guiding Busoga United to avoid successful relegation when the club were in their worst managerial and financial situation. The club was relegated after his departure with Bul hammering the final nail in their coffin.
Busoga United have since been relegated from the second tier league too.
