Africa-Press – Uganda. Officials from the office of the president led by the deputy head of the RDC Secretariat Mary Grace Kiror who is in the region to monitor government projects for proper accountability yesterday failed to access Tantara Bridge due to its poor state.

Located in Pakanyi sub county Masindi district, connecting Pakanyi and Kiruli Sub Counties, Tantara bridge was washed away by flash flood five years ago, crippling social services like schools, hospitals and markets.

The Masindi district Engineer Alfred Ocen told Akiror how the district is facing a problem of Tantara bridge which is inaccessible.

The engineer says that the Agricultural cluster development program (ACDP) had allocated shs1 billion to work on the bridge but the contractor abandoned the work after the launch citing that the scope of work was wider.

He therefore appealed to the government to intervene stressing that they risk losing both votes for the president and lives since its rainy season and bridge is in a sorry state.

In an effort to assess the bridge, Akiror and her team failed to reach the bridge for assessment due to poor condition of the road.

She says the Ministry is aware and committed to working on the bridge and as the office of the president, they are going to follow up.

Over 7 people have reportedly lost their lives in an attempt to cross the bridge as they were washed away by flash floods in the past 5 years.
