Africa-Press – Uganda. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa paid his respects to the late Pope Francis, signing the condolence book at Lubaga Cathedral.

He described the Pope as a “merciful, kind, peace maker, advocate of the rights of children” whose legacy should be emulated by leaders worldwide.

“The late Pope’s efforts in promoting peace in war-torn countries, including Gaza, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and Ukraine, are truly commendable,” Tayebwa said. “Leaders in these countries must use the passing of the Pope as an opportunity to reconcile and restore peace.”

Tayebwa, who is set to attend the Pope’s burial in Vatican, added, “The late Pope’s preaching touched the lives of all people regardless of their religion affiliations.”

Rev. Fr. Achilles Mayanja, who welcomed the Deputy Speaker, commended his gesture of standing with the church during this trying moment. “We appreciate your presence and condolences,” Fr. Mayanja said.
