Africa-Press – Uganda. Busoga Kingdom has announced that the third edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling Championships will begin on December 20, 2025, starting with preliminary races at the chiefdom level.

The opening contest will feature Bunha Chiefdom taking on Bunhole Chiefdom, with cyclists competing in both Mountain Bike and the locally popular Tipa categories.

According to the Kingdom’s Sports Minister, Amin Bbosa, these preliminary races are designed to identify talent at the grassroots level.

The top five cyclists from each chiefdom will receive cash prizes ranging from Shs100,000 for the winner to Shs20,000 for the fifth-placed cyclist.

The best three from each chiefdom will advance to the grand finale.

The final is scheduled for January 3, 2026, and is expected to draw large crowds and prominent guests, including the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, who will serve as chief guest.

Grand winners in both categories will receive brand-new motorcycles, courtesy of MTN in partnership with Busoga Kingdom. Runners-up and other top finishers will receive cash prizes ranging from Shs2 million to Shs300,000.

Beyond sporting competition, Bbosa highlighted that the championships will carry a strong social message.

This year’s theme, “Men are the pillar in fighting teenage pregnancies and early marriages,” seeks to engage men and boys in addressing challenges affecting young people in the community.

The MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling Championships have grown into one of the region’s most celebrated events, combining talent development, entertainment, and social advocacy.

Organisers are optimistic that this third edition will further strengthen cycling in Busoga Kingdom while promoting positive societal change.
