According to police, the motive of the murder is not yet known but they have launched a man hunt for the assailants as investigations continue.

One of the residents who did not want to be named for fear of reprisal from the community, said Wessa and his brother could have been killed on allegations of practicing witchcraft. However, police said adducing evidence in such cases (witchcraft) has always been difficult during prosecution and therefore people should avoid acting on rumors.
