The Uganda Advertising Association (UAA), in partnership with The Loeries, has today unveiled the Silverback Creative Week, a six day transformative schedule of learning and events that are set to redefine professional excellence in Uganda and East Africa’s marketing and communications landscape.
Scheduled for Monday, 10th to Saturday, 15th November 2025, the Silverback Creative Week will culminate in the prestigious Silverback Awards, which will take place under the theme “Elevating the Grind”, spotlighting innovation, collaboration, and global competitiveness in Uganda’s marketing communications landscape.
The Silverback Creative Week is designed to empower public relations, marketing, media, and advertising professionals with cutting-edge insights and tools to navigate today’s complex communications landscape.
“This initiative reflects UAA’s commitment to fostering professional growth and positioning East African brands for global impact,” said Rommel Jasi, Chairman of the Uganda Advertising Association. “By drawing inspiration from global benchmarks like The Loeries and Cannes Lions, both of which UAA officially represents in Uganda, we aim to elevate industry standards and equip our community to address modern challenges with strategic tools and creativity.”
The Young Silverback Competition (Monday 10th to Wednesday 12th November 2025) will kickstart the week, targeting emerging talent under 30, offering a high-energy challenge by undertaking a creative brief in under 24 to 48 hours to showcase their creative and strategic skills.
“This competition is a springboard for young professionals to demonstrate their potential and gain industry exposure,” said Nicole Nyokabi, UAA Secretary General and Chairperson of the Silverback Awards Committee.
Winners will receive medals, certificates, and internship opportunities with UAA member agencies and partners, fostering youth empowerment and career development. Briefings and judging will occur at the Next Conference Center- Next Media Park in Naguru, with winners celebrated at the Awards Gala on Saturday, 15th November 2025.
The Communications Industry Symposium will then follow on Friday 14th November 2025 at the Next Conference Center from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, uniting marketers, media professionals, advertisers, and creatives for masterclasses and workshops led by a carefully selected lineup of industry visionaries.
“This year, we’ve reimagined the Symposium to deliver actionable tools and global perspectives that directly enhance our day-to-day performance,” said Paul Mwirigi Muriungi, UAA Executive Committee Member and Communications Industry Symposium Lead.
The speakers include Kin Kariisa -CEO of Next Media, Hilda Karamagi- CIM Fellow & Managing Director at Blue Edge Marketing, David Galukande- Managing Director at QG Group, and Herbert Opio-Communications Lead at Red Brick Consulting, who will all give keynote presentations and masterclasses under the visionaries track.
Under the professional track, Betty Mukami Njirain-Regional Director for East Africa at Eskimi, Ayele Egbuson, CFO and Head of Education at CEMM Group, Irene Byarugaba, Head of Business Development, Reelanalytics, Ben Mwine, Head of Corporate Affairs & Partnerships at Next Media, Frank Fred Kumakech, General Manager at Mobicast Media, Elizabeth Mutamuliza, Marketing Manager, Beer, Uganda Breweries Limited, and Sandra Againe, Brand Manager, Crown Beverages Limited, will be the key presenters on topics related to their fields of expertise.
Tickets will be sold to UAA Members at UGX 250,000, Non-Members at UGX 300,000, and Students at UGX 100,000.
The week will culminate with the highly anticipated Silverback Awards Gala on Saturday, 15th November at the Golf Course Hotel. The night will celebrate East Africa’s most innovative campaigns across categories such as Film & Film Crafts, Print & Print Crafts, Media, Public Relations, Digital & Digital Crafts, Live Events, and Social Good.
According to the Association’s Chairman-Jasi, “The Silverback Awards Gala will be a celebration and recognition of communication and creative marketing excellence that drives business and societal impact.”
Categories like Data & Insight Driven Campaign and Customer Experience Programme highlight the region’s shift toward strategic, measurable communications.
