Africa-Press – Uganda. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics(UBOS) has handed over 5,195 census tablets to a section of cultural institutions and government funded universities.
During a function held at UBOS headquarters in Kampala, 1000 tablets were handed over to Buganda, 550 to Bunyoro, 500 to Busoga and 120 to Rwenzururu among the kingdoms, while Makerere University received 700 tablets, Kyambogo University 350 gadgets, Lira University 200 tablets, MUBS 350 tablets, Gulu University 200 tablets, Mbarara University of Science and Technology 350 tablets and Soroti University 150 tablets among other government funded universities that received.
Also given tablets was the National Council for Higher Education which got 75 pieces.
Speaking during the handover, the UBOS Executive Director, Dr. Chris Mukiza said the tablets will help these institutions in post census utilization.
“We want to streamline the process of data collection with these tablets. They will help these institutions in statistical production and analysis,” Dr.Mukiza said.
“Since UBOS is legally mandated with coordination of the National Statistical System (NSS) and providing quality statistical services that support development processes, these tables will enhance efficient conduct of statistical activities namely; data collection, research and analysis.”
Dr. Allen Kabagenyi, a UBOS board member said in an academic environment where data inquiry research is vital, such gadgets will play a crucial role in aiding the work of institutions of higher learning.
“In this digital edge this gesture in a country like Uganda with a young population, shows importance of collaborating to build skilled, informed and innovative generations to achieve development goals,” Dr.Kabagenyi said.
