Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda, through the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance (MoICT) and the National Information Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U), has been selected to host the 4th Edition of the Digital Government Africa (DGA) Summit in 2026.

The announcement was made at this year’s Summit held in Lusaka, Zambia, where delegates from across the continent convened to advance dialogue on digital governance, public service transformation, and innovation in e-Government.

The Digital Government Africa Summit is the continent’s leading platform for fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation in digital transformation. The 2026 edition will bring together leaders from government, industry, and investment sectors to explore key themes shaping Africa’s digital future, including digital transformation and economic growth, infrastructure development, policy, cloud, and connectivity.

Across the continent, governments are making significant investments in digital and e-Government services to enhance delivery, transparency, and efficiency. Emerging trends continue to redefine Africa’s digital landscape, including the expansion of digital identity systems, e-Government platforms, smart public services, cybersecurity and data protection frameworks, e-payments, and cashless service delivery models. These transformative shifts are increasingly being driven by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in public systems.

Uganda’s delegation that officially accepted the hosting mantle on behalf of the country included: Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Gen. David Muhoozi, Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director, NITA-U, Brig. Gen. Johnson Namanya, Director, Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), Ms. Doris Obat, Executive Director, National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), and other senior government officials.

“We are honoured to have Uganda chosen as the next host of the Digital Government Africa Summit. This recognition affirms the progress our country has made in leveraging ICTs to transform public service delivery and improve the lives of our citizens,” said Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance. “The Summit will provide a strategic opportunity to showcase Uganda’s achievements, share best practices, and strengthen continental collaboration in building a digitally empowered Africa.”

Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director, NITA-U, added: “Digital transformation is no longer a choice but an imperative. Hosting DGA 2026 positions Uganda at the center of Africa’s digital discourse, allowing us to demonstrate how infrastructure, interoperability, and innovation are powering inclusive growth.”

The Digital Government Africa Secretariat noted: “Uganda’s commitment to digital excellence and its track record in implementing scalable, citizen-centric ICT solutions made it a natural choice for the 2026 host. We are excited to partner with MoICT and NITA-U to make next year’s Summit the most impactful yet.”

Uganda looks forward to welcoming Africa to Kampala for #DGA2026; a landmark gathering that will shape the continent’s next phase of digital governance, innovation, and transformation.
