Africa-Press – Uganda. The Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Oboth Oboth, has commended the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) for its role in promoting global peace.

He highlighted the benefits of Uganda’s relationship with China, including training opportunities in China and support for the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in regional security efforts.

Minister Oboth Oboth officiated the commemoration of the PLA’s 98th anniversary at the Chinese Embassy in Kampala.

He praised the China Army for being a trustworthy friend to Uganda, particularly in establishing a self-reliant industry in the country.

“Their relationship with China has seen Uganda benefit from a number of trainings in China in addition to supporting the UPDF’s effort in maintaining regional security,” Minister Oboth Oboth said.

The Ambassador of China to Uganda, Zhang Lizhong, highlighted the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership between Uganda and China.

He emphasized the deep roots of the relationship between the PLA and UPDF, citing mutual support for national independence and security.

“Uganda and China are now bound in a comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership and bilateral military relations,” Amb. Zhang said.

Amb. Zhang also noted the thriving relations between Uganda and China across various sectors, including infrastructure, health, Agriculture, trade and digital Innovation.

Amb. Zhang mentioned that China granted 100% tariff exemption on imports from 33 least developed African countries, including Uganda, following the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing summit in September last year.
