Africa-Press – Uganda. With 660 new cases, Uganda has recorded its second-highest ever number of new COVID-19 infections, bringing the cumulative confirmed cases in the country to 23,860. No death was however recorded.
In releasing results today, the Ministry of Health apologised for delaying the relaying of the results noting that, “there was a delay in analysing results yesterday hence the late reporting.”
The breakdown of the new cases is as follows: Kampala (254), Wakiso (92), Kisoro (48), Sheema (47), Mbarara (33), Masaka (47), Buhweju (26), Lyantonde (18), Jinja (20), Kagadi (17), Rubirizi (10), Luwero (11), Moyo (6), Masindi (5), Hoima (5), Buikwe (5), Gulu (3), Kazo (3), Kayunga (3), Kamuli (2), Bushenyi (2), Buyende (2), Kiruhura (2), Kakumiro (1), Buyende (1), Arua (1), Ngora (1), Nakaseke (1).
Results of COVID-19 tests done on Sunday confirmed Uganda had 701 new cases which were the highest ever recorded.
There have been fears that the election period where some candidates have deliberately refused to adhere to the set guidelines by the Ministry of Health and the Electoral Commission, could lead to an increase in the number of cases.
There have also been calls by sections of Ugandans for the Electoral Commission to call off campaigns on the grounds of the increasing cases of COVID-19 infections which the Ministry of Health now says is being spread at community level.
Health Minister Ruth Aceng last month cautioned the members of the public to follow the Standard Operating Procedures which included washing hands, keeping social distance, and wearing a mask to curb the spread of the virus.
