Africa-PressUganda. As we come to the end of a particularly perplexing 2020, Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General, John Musinguzi has acknowledged the efforts made by Ugandans towards the development of the country.

“I would like to thank all Ugandans for the efforts you have made towards the developing of our country by honouring tax obligations. We have collectively contributed a net revenue collection of sh8trillion to the national treasury this financial year,” Musinguzi said.Recently, the organisation planned a taxpayers appreciation season where several activities were carried out in a bid to engage, rally and recognise tax payers, which Musinguzi said the active participation was a privilege because it helps the organisation to get feedback from their clients.”We value the feedback that was shared with us, especially the need for more engagements in taxpayer education to equip them with more knowledge about their rights and obligations so that the taxi regime is easily understood by everyone,” he added.Musinguzi said the use of technology has greatly improved the mode of service delivery.”The new technological advancement we have deployed include the use of non-intrusive inspection at our borders to facilitate trade and also curb smuggling, automation of our services, implementation of digital tracking solution, the electronic fiscal receipting and invoicing solution whose enforcements will start next year.””The digital tracking solutions and electronic fiscal receipting invoicing are tailored among other many benefits to improve record-keeping for businesses and collection of local exercise duty and value-added tax respectively as well. We are also opting for alternative dispute resolution to amicably settle tax disputes and reduce the litigation costs for both parties.””I also encourage taxpayers to embrace the ongoing voluntary disclosure avenue by performing thorough tax self-health checks to clean tax accounts without being fined,” said Musinguzi.Additionally, Musinguzi encouraged all Ugandans to be mindful of their health of the potential spread of COVID-19 during the festive season.”Guard yourself and loved ones at all times by holding the standard operating procedures which have proven to be a powerful weapon against the pandemic,” he noted.
