Africa-Press – Uganda. CHRISTMAS
One of the most important ingredients of a good Christmas celebration is food.
But with the evolving of cuisine came many other ways to have a Christmas meal, usually between 3-4pm though the main target is 1pm, lunchtime. But there is a variety of categories you can choose from when it comes to the Christmas food. Some less cumbersome than others, it depends on what suits you.TraditionalThe usual way is for the main Christmas meal to be prepped by the lady of the house. This involves waking up in the wee hours of Christmas morning, putting the food on the fire before you go to church for the service. The main foods prepared are usually local variety, matooke, pumpkin, rice, and sweet potatoes and of course, beef to mention but a few.In this category, the variety is broad and the buffet is large. In most cases, when this is done, lunch and supper are prepared in the same meal.Barbecue ChristmasMeat, meat and more meat is the main feature of this kind of cuisine.Nelson Muhumuza, a skilled barbeque chef says that the client chooses the type of meats he wants to be it chicken, beef, pork, gaits meat or all of them. This should be accompanied with side dishes which can be a salad, grilled potatoes, gilled matooke, boiled cassava, avocado, plantain. He says the meats should be marinated overnight and then grilled in the morning, however, one should keep a close watch on the time.Fine diningAn exquisite and sophisticated way of feasting, most high-class restaurants and five-star hotels have this option so if you are looking to dine out, this is worth a try. However, it would be nice to read up on the different types of cutlery used, when and how to use what. This requires formal dress code, like dinner dresses and a tux so you can fit the bill. There are usually between five to seven courses of meals and the table is set in a specific manner to carter to this, so you are in for a feast. It is great for romantic Christmas dinner dates and the advantage is you do not have to do the cleaning up afterwards.Finger foodsThese are deceptive when it comes to their ability to satisfy a person but if you are not in the mood to cook much this Christmas, try preparing finger foods like meatballs, fish fingers, sandwiches and other easy snacks. They will fill you up and leave you feeling light. They are also very easy and cheaper to prepare than most.
