Africa-Press – Zambia. President Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia’s recent policy successes are the result of a deliberate shift from rhetoric to results.
Speaking in Lusaka when he accepted an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Effective Leadership from ZCAS University, President Hichilema said his administration introduced a new governance approach focused on measurable outcomes.
He cited the establishment of the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) and the Public Private Dialogue Forum (PPDF) as key reforms aimed at driving efficiency, accountability, and timely implementation of government programmes.
The President explained that this shift has, for the first time, aligned the public service to clear national targets, including scaling up copper production to three million tonnes by 2031. He noted that reforms across critical sectors such as energy, mining, and agriculture are beginning to yield results.
President Hichilema said the resolution of load shedding challenges would not have been possible without bold reforms. In the mining sector, he highlighted that his administration prioritized dialogue and negotiation over prolonged court battles with investors, leading to the revival of several mines, including Kalengwa Mine, which had been dormant for over four decades.
He stressed that reforms are not punitive but are intended to unlock growth and create opportunities for all citizens.
The President also paid tribute to First Lady Mutinta Hichilema for her unwavering support during demanding periods of public service, and acknowledged the role of friends and associates in his journey.
He pledged to uphold the values associated with the honour, committing to serve with responsibility, discipline, and a focus on results.
