Africa-Press – Zambia. About 26 Zambian students have spent a night in the cold after traveling hundreds of kilometers to the Ukraine border with Poland. A distraught family member who does not want to be named says her sister Febby Sunga is among the desperate nationals that are stuck since Polish authorities have not allowed the fleeing immigrants to cross the border amid selective transportation of people fleeing the conflict.
Videos and voices notes given to Diamond News reveal desperation in the students that want to leave the war torn territory that not long ago was a land of opportunities for thousands of Africans that were in various universities and to some that worked in mineral rich regions.
The frustrated students bemoan alleged lack of proper coordination by the Zambian government to evacuate its nationals that are reported stuck in different parts of Ukraine.
In Zambia voices are getting louder among families pleading to be told how their relatives will be evacuated from Ukraine whose airspace has been closed for three days as Russia advances its troops in a quest to topple the Volodymyr Zelenskyy led administration. Nearly two hundred people have lost their lives since the start of the Russian invasion as security analysts believe many are unaccounted for.
