Africa-Press – Zambia. Kiyona Energy in partnership with ZESCO is set to power 600 households in Chongwe’s Silverest area with solar electricity.

The initiative is part of President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s directive to add 1,000 megawatts of power to the national grid.

Kiyona Energy Chief Executive Officer CLEMENT SIAME says the project utilizes a flexible energy-as-a-service model that will enable households and small communities to access clean solar-powered electricity.

Speaking during the Launch of the initiative in Chongwe district, Mr. SIAME said the approach has potential to decentralize energy access and reduce reliance on the national grid.

And ZESCO Managing Director JUSTIN LOONGO said the model will provide grid-independent solutions that complement national load management.

Mr. LOONGO welcomed the initiatives and pledged ZESCO’s continued support.

And, Chongwe Local Government Administrator CHARLESTON HAMULYATA called for the expansion of the initiative to reach more Zambians.

Meanwhile, ZANACO Managing Director MUKWANDI CHIBESAKUNDA urged the financial sector to invest in decentralized and private-led energy solutions.
