Africa-Press – Zambia. Police In Mambwe recover 63 bags of Government fertiliser from a shop in Msoro Ward By Thelma Kunda/Mambwe district Police in Mambwe District have recovered 63 bags of Government fertiliser from a shop in Msoro Ward of Malambo Constituency.
Mambwe District Commissioner William Banda has confirmed the recovery of the 63 bags of fertiliser, which are either meant for Food Security Pack programme (FSP) or the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
Mr Banda said the fertiliser bags were recovered after a tip off that there were bags of fertiliser hidden in one of the shops at Msoro. Mr Banda said after receiving the tip-off he went with police officers to verify the information and indeed the bags of fertiliser were recovered from the shop.
“It is true that we have recovered 63 bags of fertiliser in Msoro Ward. When we went to check, the owner was hesitant to open his shop but he opened it eventually,” he said. And Mr Banda said the fertiliser in question goes hand in hand with a seed pack which he believes has been sold.
The District Commissioner said investigations are underway to establish how the fertiliser was found in the shop and whether either the beneficiaries of the Farmer Input Support Programme or the Food Security Pack programme sold it. Mr Banda added that the retrieved bags of fertiliser are now being kept at Msoro Police Post for safety.
