Africa-Press – Zambia. African Union Commission (AUC) Deputy Chairperson, Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi called for African self-reliance and global partnership in the changing world order.
In a recorded keynote statement delivered at a side event during the UN General Assembly’s 80th anniversary, she addressed the theme of “African Perspectives on the Changing World Order” focusing on the continent’s progress and its evolving role in global affairs.
Africa has progressed in funding its own security, Haddadi stated, and noted “Africa’s peace-and-security architecture is being financed and owned by Africans themselves. The AU Peace Fund now stands capitalized and operational.”
Furthermore, the Deputy Chairperson discussed the significance of economic integration. She described the African Continental Free Trade Area as an initiative that “does more than connect our markets and people, it restores pathways of commerce and collaboration that existed long before artificial borders were imposed upon us.”
Haddadi addressed Africa’s voice in global discourse, referencing the continent’s permanent seat in the G20.
She emphasized that this position affirms what “we have always known, but the world is finally recognizing: Africa is indispensable to solving global problems.”
“The changing world order presents Africa with unprecedented opportunity, and we approach this moment with the confidence that comes from knowing ourselves,” the Deputy Chairperson underscored.
To global partners, Haddadi extended “an invitation to support our legitimate quest for an equitable global financial order, for Africa’s representation in the UN Security Council.”
Finally, she pointed out that such partnerships should be “grounded in mutual respect and shared benefit,” asserting that “when Africa rises, global prosperity and stability follow.”
