Africa-Press – Zambia. The Movement For Restoration Of Teachers Affairs In Zambia -MORETA- has noted the need to adjust the number of teacher trade unions in order to avoid subjecting teachers to multiple deductions.
Progressive Educators Union in Zambia, a new trade union for teachers is the latest to be registered in the country, making it the seventh trade union in the teaching fraternity.
Reacting to the formation of the new union, MORETA Executive Director Samuel Mbumba is concerned that the coming of more trade unions will be a burden on teachers when it comes to monthly deductions and has suggested that the industry should have less than 3 unions.
Dr. Mbumba argues that 3 unions will be enough as they all do one job and speak one language on behalf of teachers. And National Action for Quality Education in Zambia -NAQEZ- Executive Director Aaron Chansa is concerned that most of these unions are not accountable, transparent and do not represent the welfare of teachers.
