Compensate me for the hypertension I had after gun was pointed at me, Tayali asks State Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali is seeking compensation from the State over the hypertension he suffered when a police officer attempted to shoot at him in 2020 whilst accompanying President Hakainde Hichilema to police force headquarters for questioning.

Tayali wants the Lusaka High Court to award him damages for the aggravated assault he was subjected to by the officer who pointed a gun to his head for inquiring why the Head of State’s entourage was blocked on their way to the police.

In his statement of claim the UPND Ndola central member of parliament, said that he was wrongfully assaulted by a trigger-happy police officer on December 23,2020 at the cenotaph in the vicinity of cabinet office. Tayali stated whilst the Head of State’s entourage was en-route to the police headquarters, police officers blocked their convoy at Cabinet Office.

He stated that he stepped out of his vehicle whilst waving his hands to find out why the police had blocked all roads leading to Force headquarters but to his surprise, the excited officer pointed an An AK-48 riffle to his head whilst threatening his his life, thereby instilling fear in him.

He stated that as a result of the assault, he suffered from hypertension, whicn was aggravated by the actions of the police officer. ” The Plaintiff was placed in a state of fear because of violence, which was compounded

prior to incidents of police brutality and extra-judicial killings,” Tayali stated. He lamented that he was subjected to a near-death experience which has since left him traumatized and distressed. The plaintiff stated that he experienced a near-death experience, which was traumatic and caused him great distress.

Tayali through his lawyers Messrs ZS Legal Practitioners wants the State to award him damages for aggravated assault and an order compelling the Attorney General to award him interests on the sums found due at the current lending bank rate. By Mwaka Ndawa Kalemba
