Copper Queens to arrive in batches…The first group arrives today

Africa-Press – Zambia. The Zambia Women’s national team will arrive in batches from Morocco following struggles to with flight arrangements, the Football Association of Zambia has confirmed.

The first batch led by skipper Barbra Banda and the head coach Bruce Mwape will arrive this evening. FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala says the squad will arrive in batches following the struggle with flights to carry the whole contingent.

“Following the conclusion of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2022, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to provide an arrival update for the Copper Queens who reaped bronze at the continental showpiece.”

“Our bronze winning squad will be arriving in Lusaka in batches due to flight challenges with the first group arriving on Sunday, 24th July 2022 at 18:30 hours aboard Rwanda Air,” Kashala told FAZ media.

“The rest of the group will be on their way starting on Sunday while another group will leave on Monday 25th July 22 everything else being equal. However, the team will be in camp at Southern Sun awaiting a list of engagements with government and stakeholders in the aftermath of their historic achievement,” Kashala added.

FAZ has thanked government and the public for the unprecedented support rendered to the team throughout the WAFCON and beyond. “We are overwhelmed by the level of support that the public has rendered to the Copper Queens throughout this journey. The team has felt your support and are motivated to even work harder for future engagements that include the 2023 FIFA World Cup,” he said.

“We urge those that have indicated their intention to render appreciation to the team to get in touch with the FAZ secretariat who will guide on the procedure. We once again call on the corporate world to take advantage of the Women National Team’s performance to seal partnerships and support the girl child.”

Evarine Susan Katongo scored a beauty of a goal on Friday to help the Copper Queens record their first win over Nigeria and seal third place. The Copper Queens’ triumph meant they picked up their first ever medals (bronze) at the continental showpiece.
