Africa-Press – Zambia. The Zambia national team will face the Zebras of Botswana in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2022 COSAFA championship. This is after Botswana booked their place in the quarterfinals of the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA CUP 2022 with an impressive victory in their final pool game played in Durban on Sunday.
Botswana sealed their knockout berth with a 1-0 Group A win over Angola, in doing so winning three COSAFA Cup matches in a row for the first time in their history.
Botswana has set up a quarterfinal meeting with Zambia at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday (kick-off 17h00 CAT) in what is a repeat of the 2019 final, also played in Durban, that Chipolopolo won 1-0 to claim their fifth title.
Before that match is the first quarterfinal between Madagascar and Namibia at the same venue (14h00 CAT) Eswatini advances to take on Senegal in what is a repeat of the 2021 semifinal that was won on penalties by the west African guest nation. That match is on Wednesday at 14h00 CAT.
It will leave the last of the quarterfinals between defending champions South Africa and Mozambique, another repeat of last year’s semifinal that Bafana Bafana won 3-0. The match will kick off at 17h00 CAT.
The Chipolopolo boys arrived in Durban this afternoon. Zambia is eying their sixth title to join neighbors Zimbabwe as the teams with the most titles in the regional showpiece.
Zambia last won the tournament back in 2019 under Green Eagles boss Aggrey Chiyangi with Lazarus Kambole, Bruce Musakanya, Sebastian Mwange, Austin Muwowo, and Tapson Kaseba as the key players. The five-time Cosafa Cup champions also have an eye on the July 24 African Nations Championship (CHAN) first leg tie away to Mozambique.
