Africa-Press – Zambia. The Cotton Board of Zambia has announced the launch of an essay writing competition in an effort to encourage young people develop an interest in agriculture as a career.
The competition under the theme “cotton for sustainable development and environmental sustainability” will run for a period of 30 days. Cotton Board of Zambia Chief Executive officer Sunduzwayo Banda has called on interested Zambians between 18 and 24 years to enter the competition.
“Participants are urged to submit a research paper on the importance of cotton to the Zambian economy”, Banda said.
The competition will see the winner walk away with a high tech iPad, first runners up will walk away with a latest smart phone and third position will have an opportunity for internship at the cotton board secretariat. During the 30 days period, Cotton Board of Zambia will also run a series of events showcasing the importance of cotton to the Zambian economy.
The Cotton Board Act No. 21 of 2005 empowers the Board to regulate the Cotton Industry as it relates to the production and ginning of seed Cotton: to control the production and marketing of cotton and to provide with or incidental to the foregoing.
