Africa-Press – Zambia. THE happenings surrounding the Kwacha and Kabushi constituency parliamentary by-elections are a serious assault on the tenets of democracy and the electoral process, says Golden Party Zambia president, Jackson Silavwe.

Mr. Silavwe said in an interview that the UPND government was conducting itself in a dictatorial manner. He pointed out that the campaigns in Kwacha and Kabushi constituencies have revealed what the UPND was made of.

He said the campaigns by President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND were an affront to democracy because the elections were still under legal scrutiny.

Mr. Silavwe said it was therefore unprecedented for a ruling party to go ahead with campaigns when the elections were being questioned in the courts of law. He said that this was an affront to democracy and good governance and must be condemned. He wondered how a ruling party could be so desperate to win elections that it was ready to break the democratic rules to its advantage.
