Africa-Press – Zambia. FALSE and malicious machinations meant to tarnish the image of the former first lady have been set in motion suggesting that she was seeking asylum in Canada, Patriotic Front (PF) deputy Chairperson for Publicity Emmanuel Mwamba has said.

Mr Mwamba said that it was shocking that some people were trying to implicate the former first lady, Esther Lungu, that she was seeking political asylum on grounds that she and her family were being persecuted by the UPND Government.

It is alleged that Ms Lungu applied for asylum on grounds that she and her family were a target of political persecution after her husband Edgar Lungu was ousted from power. According to a Canadian based lawyer, Dr Munyonzwe Hamalengwa, Ms Lungu’s application was rejected because her grounds did not hold water.

However Dr Hamalengwa according to the National Post of Canada is a disgrace lawyer, debarred for overbilling the legal aid board by over US$120, 000.

And Mr Mwamba said this was work of propagandists from the UPND who wanted to tarnish the former first lady’s image because there was nothing like that.

“This is the work of UPND who are hell bent on mudslinging the former first lady’s image because as far as I’m concerned she has never applied for asylum,” he said. Mr Mwamba said that people should learn to be factual and not just focus on scandalising the former first family.
