Africa-Press – Zambia. Police in Choma District, Southern Province, have unearthed a scam in which inputs under the Farmer Input Support Program – FISP were diverted to two cooperatives using fake names of farmers.
Regional Police Commanding Officer Paul Achiume told Byta FM news that this occurred after receiving a report from Choma’s Mapanza Area Councillor Chinganya Hamatwi, recently.
Achiume disclosed that the police instituted investigations which revealed that inputs handed out to Jata Noiluma and Tulikwaya cooperatives were too many compared to what was allocated.
He added that an additional 10 fake names of farmers not belonging to the two cooperatives received 60 bags of fertilizer, 10 bags of maize seed and 10 bags of soya beans seed.
Achiume says two farmers have been apprehended, while a Camp Agriculture Officer whom they were working with is yet to be apprehended. Police have however, managed to recover 9 bags of D Compound fertilizer, 9 bags of urea fertilizer and 10 by 25 kg bags of soya beans seed.
