Africa-Press – Zambia. GOVERNMENT says it will engage various stakeholders to settle millions of Kwacha owed to various sports disciplines in the country. Youth, Sport and Arts Minister Elvis Nkandu says the Ministry has over 44 million Kwacha sports debt to clear which has been outstanding for 11-years.
Nkandu says the previous administration left debts to various sports disciplines including 2012 Chipolopolo Africa Cup of Nations-AFCON heroes, Boxing champion Catherine Phiri among other sports disciplines.
NKandu says it is sad that 2012 Chipolopolo Afcon Champions have not been paid their prize money since they won the cup. He adds that the footballers were promised houses and no one has been given so far.
Speaking during a stakeholder ‘meet and greet’ meeting in Lusaka, Nkandu said this is why the New Dawn Administration has taken the task to settle all the sports debts with the support from different stakeholders. He explained that the Ministry currently has a shortfall of 67 million Kwacha to achieve its set objectives for 2022.
