Africa-Press – Zambia. Youth Day Celebrations went ahead as scheduled in Monze district of Southern Province. Governmenta canceled the commemorations early Saturday morning following the death of fourth Republican President, Rupiah Bwezani Banda on Friday evening.
However, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu addressed the youths in Monze and challenged them to stop looking for jobs, but setup businesses.
Mwiimbu argues that no successful man has achieved their success through employment. Mwiimbu explains that this is why government is insisting that youths take advantage of empowerment funds through cooperatives.
He acknowledges the complaints about the application process for empowerment funds, but he assures then youths is addressing the challenges. And Youth Representative, Memory Katengo called on government to develop a National Youth Development Strategy that will provide further guidance towards empowerment.
And Patriotic Front Monze Central Constituency Youth Chairperson David Chipeta said the party in Monze did not take part in this year’s commemoration due to logistical challenges.
