Africa-Press – Zambia. NEWLY appointed Anti-Corruption Commission director general Gilbert Phiri says rooting out corruption in the country will no longer be monotonous. In an interview with The Mast following his appointment by President Hakainde Hichilema on Wednesday subject to ratification by the National Assembly, Phiri vowed not to let down the Zambian people in combatting graft.
“I can only say that I cannot disappoint the Zambian people. This fight will never be the same going forward,” Phiri said.
The Lusaka based lawyer said he was indebted to President Hichilema for his assignation. Phiri added that he would make profound decisions at the Commission once ratified by parliament.
“I’m grateful to the Almighty God and also I am very grateful to the appointing authority, the President for this appointment to join the public service. After ratification, when I begin the actual work that is needed to be done at ACC, we will be able to sit down properly and explain where we are going,” said Phiri.
“There is no doubt in the fact that there’s been an outcry about the fight concerning corruption. I will not prejudge anything before our people’s representative, parliament, ratifies my appointment. I’m not going to make any assumptions regarding ratification but once we cross that bridge we will be able to make earth shaking pronouncements going forward.”
