Immunity removal calls “disturb” Lungu’s birthday celebration JUST like Edgar Lungu’s digestive enzymes are working to break down every piece of the birthday cake he ate to mark his 65-year stay on earth on Thursday, detractors of the former president have also began working to break down the wall shielding him from arrest and prosecution.
Lungu’s former neighbor Matomola Likwanya, also a member of the ruling UPND yesterday led a group of youths in petitioning President Hakainde Hichilema to remove his immunity.
Likwanya and company believe that after becoming republican president in 2015, Lungu did not give up the pinching habits that got his law practicing certificate suspended by the Law Association of Zambia after it was established that he swindled a widowed client off her money back in 2010.
The group believes Lungu used part of his presidential powers to stick his fingers in national coffers and facilitate for a myriad of shady government deals for his cronnies. Likwanya insists Lungu’s immunity should be lifted to pave way for investigations in various alleged corruption cases.
He also believes that Zambians want to know whether Lungu was really involved in the illegal exportation of the Mukula tree species and the procurement of the pricy fire tenders. However, the petition for Lungu’s immunity removal is not going unchallenged.
Patriotic Front’s Chanoda Ngwira now operating under the banner of African Youth Movement Zambia as excutive director suggests Likwanya and company are hired guns whose job description is to oil the UPND machinery of hatred, malice and vengeance against his party.
Ngwira thinks President Hakainde Hichilema and UPND must direct their energies to fixing the economy instead of politically persecuting Lungu who peacefully handed over power after the August 12 vote. Kalemba November 13, 2021
