Lusaka Woman Loses K70, 000 Cashing After ‘investing ’ In Betting

Africa-Press – Zambia. A reckless decision to place a bet on an inconsistent Liverpool team has put a 19 year-old girl of Lusaka on a slippery downward trip to prison. Dainess Mulenga, who is currently before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court, is said to have misapplied K77,275 of her boss’s capital which she was given as capital for Airtel money by placing a bet on football via the 1xBet platform.

However, the premier league team she bet on huffed and puffed to a loss leaving her at the mercy of her employer who wants his money back and reported her to police for theft by servant.

Brought before Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya, Dainess pleaded guilty explaining how she ended up in the quagmire. “I had a shortage of K20,700 and did not inform my employer about the development.

I then got part of my employer’s money and opened a 1xBet account so that I could win and recover the missing K20, 000. I started betting using K57,000 but I lost, meaning in total, the shortage was now over K70, 000,” she explained.

Based in her account, Magistrate Mutinta recorded a plea of guilty and adjourned the matter. It is not known if the Premier League or any of the losing teams will come in to bail out Dainess before the hammer falls and she’s taken to prison.
