Africa-PressZambia. Southern Province Minister, Cornelius Mweetwa has taken a jibe at the poor quality of some infrastructural works which were put up during the Patriotic Front regime.

Byta FMs Samuel Mwale reports that addressing Heads of government Departments in Pemba District Wednesday Afternoon, Mweetwa gave an example of the recently constructed Pemba Bus Station, noting that the structure was badly done.

The Minister said it would have been better to maintain the football pitch which was previously there than put up a low standard bus station which a private individual could have executed better.

He advised government workers to be prudent when executing public projects and managing resources by not falling in the trap of overpricing projects and pilfering funds resulting in poor works.

Mweetwa further reiterated the need for honesty, diligence, hard work and unity in the civil service and assured that promotions and work engagements will be based on qualifications.

He also called for a professional civil service, noting that no government worker must be seen to openly align themselves to any political party. And in giving a vote of acknowledgement, Pemba District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), Himonde Nzila thanked the Minister for the assurance of a professional civil service.

Nzila was elated by declarations pertaining to a good working environment were each individual will be free to discharge their duties without undue influence or intimidation from those with personal agendas.
