Africa-Press – Zambia. Chipolopolo striker Patson Daka and U-23 prospect Chanka Zimba are expected to face off this evening in the English Football League Cup. Leicester City welcome Newport County at the King Power Stadium this evening in the Carabao Cup round of 32.
Brendan Rogers is expected to name a strong squad this evening with the Zambian international likely to lead the attack. Rodgers says he will keep the core of the team as they face Newport County.
“We want to get through, I won’t be making too many changes. We have a game on Tuesday and a lot of the players need to be ready to go again,” Rodgers said.
“I changed the team about when we went to Stockport and we nearly went out. I don’t want to do that. I want to go through. I’ve shown that every time I’ve been here in the cup competitions.”
Iversen could replace the in-form Danny Ward, who has five clean sheets in his last seven games, while Wilfred Ndidi may make a first start since a hamstring injury and Luke Thomas is available.
For Newport, Chanka Zimba could return to the starting line up for the first time since September. Zimba who is in Oswald Mutapa’s plans for next year’s U-23 AFCON qualifiers against Egypt has been crucial in the Carabao Cup.
Zimba scored a goal in the win over Luton and assisted in the win over Postsmouth to set up a meeting with the Foxes. This will be Leicester’s last home outing before the winter FIFA World Cup break,
After this match the Foxes will head to London Stadium on Saturday to tackle West Ham United in the Premier League. City know all too well about Newport having lost to the south Wales side in the FA Cup during the 2018/19 season.
