Africa-Press – Zambia. The possibility of having their sitting allowances withdrawn by the Speaker this morning forced opposition PF members of parliament to halt their walk-out protest from the House.
During this morning’s parliamentary sitting, the opposition lawmakers accused Speaker Nelly Mutti of curtailing their rights over their attempt to block the auditing of the defence forces by the Auditor General.
Speaker Mutti had guided them in line with the Standing Orders for them to avoid repeating questions over the auditing matter that had adequately been clarified by the finance minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane via a ministerial statement. Immediately Speaker Mutti guided them, the PF MPs started walking out of the chamber.
However, as soon as Speaker Mutti warned them that they will not be paid their sitting allowances if they walked out, as that would be tantamount to abusing tax payers money, the opposition legislators all got back to their seats in the House.
