October 20, 2024 — Police in Lusaka have recorded a damage-only road traffic accident involving Mr. Musa Mwenye.
The accident occurred today, October 20, 2024, at around 04:00 hours along Lake Road near Kwacha Square Institute, opposite Choppies, Lusaka.Brief facts of the matter indicate that Mr. Musa Mwenye, 49, of Stand 22858, Kabulonga, was driving a Toyota Hilux with registration number BAX 1085 when he lost control and hit a gate, causing several damages to the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which struck the gate, forced it open, and subsequently crashed into a window of the Copperbelt University building.
A breathalyzer test was administered, revealing an alcohol content higher than the legal limit of 0.38 mg/100 ml.
Mr. Mwenye was briefly held at Woodlands Police Station but was immediately released to seek further medical attention.
The vehicle remains at Woodlands Police station, and further investigations into the offence of driving under the influence of alcohol, contrary to Section 157(i) of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002, have been initiated, along with inquiries into other traffic offences.
