Africa-Press – Zambia. Many of our people have a misunderstanding of the polygamy law being proposed. Zambia isn’t about to introduce polygamy. Polygamy already exists in Zambia. Polygamy is legal in Zambia under customary law.
What is being proposed is to bring all marriages under statute instead of the current situation where we have civil marriage laws, and customary marriage laws.
The new law won’t mean that Zambians are now free to have polygamy. If your faith doesn’t allow polygamy; the law won’t force you to. But the law will bring customary marriages under statute.
